Shadow Me (Shatter Me #4.5)

I am with the masses of fans who have read these books when I tell you that Kenji is one of my favorite characters of this series (not to be beaten by Warner because he is my all time favorite). So getting a book from his point of view has been, in a word, amazing! His wit and sense of humor come through, but you also get to see a serious side of him that you don't see very often.

I do have to say that it is also very entertaining to see him fumbling about trying to interact with Nazeera, who is a new character that is introduced in book 4. His brain seems to short circuit when it comes to her and seeing him off kilter is just funny to me as he is generally a very together person. Sure, there are times when he is silly or pretends to be dumb about something, but those are deliberate flubs on his part. He puts intention behind everything he does.

Despite his humor and general sunny disposition, getting to see inside Kenji's head also means we get to see how worried he is about both Juliette and Warner. He doesn't consider Warner a friend, really, but in this book you do see a mutual respect begin to grow between the two. They both want what is best for Juliette and find a way to work together a little to see that she is taken care of. Even when Juliette breaks up with Warner, Kenji's concern is for both of them.
