I came across this quote not too long ago while I was scrolling through my feed on Instagram and it hit me so hard that this is what I've been doing. In my search to find happiness and to find what makes me the person I am, I am also unbecoming. I am shedding all of the expectations that other people may have for me and maybe the ones that I have for myself, and instead I am just taking things day to day. I live in the present. In the moment. I try not to dwell on the past. The hardest part is to not look toward the future and make assumptions about things, but I'm working on that.
As a result of my unbecoming here are a few things that I've been doing that help me stay in the present when I feel myself floating away.
* Meditation- I will admit that when I first tried meditation I thought it was silly and useless. I felt ridiculous sitting on the floor with my eyes closed. But as I began to focus on my breath more and really get lost in the quiet of my mind, I started enjoying it.
*A nice hot bath or shower- Sometimes breathing in the steam from a bath or shower can really help my mind relax and calm. Before hand you can also do some gentle dry brushing or an oil massage to pamper yourself even more!
*Close your eyes and go to your happy place- Sometimes I'm in public when I start to think about the future or past. Or maybe I'm at home getting ready to go to a meeting and start to feel a little anxiety. Closing my eyes and going to my happy place helps me to focus on my breath and calm my nerves.
*Read a book- if it hasn't become obvious by now through my YouTube videos, it will soon enough, because I love to read. Reading is my favorite was to escape reality for a little while. I get lost in the world on the pages in front of me and forget about my life so I can get enveloped in the life of the characters I'm reading about.
There are many more things you can do to help center yourself. The four mentioned above are just my favorites. You can try them if you like and add your own unique twist to them like aromatherapy or something. Use your own unique experiences and life journey to find what will help you to find what works for you!
