I have been reading a lot more queer romance recently. It started as a challenge to myself during Pride month and because I love reading romance of all kinds, it stuck.
This series, Hell's Ankhor, was one that was recommended through Kindle Unlimited (of which I have a subscription). I tend to read romance with grittier topics when I read something more contemporary and this series fit he bill. This series is about a motorcycle club and while it is a little bit less gritty in some ways from other things I have read, there is still violence present and drugs mentioned. This series is definitely for the 18+ crowd.
I will mention that this is a 10 book series. Normally I get bored with a series this long. The plots seem to be too similar or the characters all begin to blend together and seem like one person. This series, however, did not feel that way. Each character is distinctly different. Each plot line is separate and it's own. While there are a few storylines that thread through the books to make it so you must read them in order, it doesn't take away from the couple that is being portrayed.
I won't list each book individually like I did for the last post, but a few of my favorites are:
Maverick (#4): When a man pounds on his door late at night during a storm with a baby in his arms, Mav makes the decision to let him in and help out any way he can (that's just the type of human he is). Jonah is reluctant, though, to let anyone else in because he has been burned before. Plus he has his daughter to consider. With heart warming family scenes and some twisted unfortunate action, this book was awesome.
Tex(#5): Jazz has been in love with his straight best friend for years. After a stint in prison, he comes back to find Tex a little different than before. Tex sees changes in Jazz too that have made him proud and very confused. Jazz coming back has made the hole in Tex's heart fill back up, but there is something more lurking underneath. This book is an exploration of one's sexuality and shows that friendship can sometimes grow into more.
Joker(#8): Sometimes someone's prickly demeanor is a defense mechanism. In Joker's case, this is most definitely true. Until Brennan comes along and shows him that he doesn't have to do everything on his own. This book will tug at your heartstrings!
While these ones were my favorites, that is not to say that the rest of the series wasn't excellent as well! Just remember that these are definitely for the 18+ crowd. Make sure to check them out on Kindle Unlimited (this is not sponsored).
