Sometimes I get into these moods and I just can't find anything that pulls my interest in long enough to finish it. This past month has been one of those times.
I'm currently halfway through Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard for the second time, but I'm taking a pause because it's not pulling me in.
I'm about a third of the way through Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo, but I'm having trouble staying focused so I'm taking a pause from that one too.
When I get into these moods, the only thing that really gets me out of them is to wait it out.
I don't like that solution. I am so used to having a book in my hand or on my phone that when I get into moods like this, it feels unnatural. So, here's what I also do...
I reread old favorites.
You all know that I love my romance novels, so one of my favorite authors to revisit is Sandra Brown. Her romance novel Bittersweet Rain was one of my very first romance novels that I read. To this day, when I get in a rut and don't want to read anything, I pick up that book (or one of my other favorites by her) and get myself straightened out. A few other titles I also love by her:
Hidden Fires
Shadows of Yesterday
Sweet Anger
Unfortunately, this doesn't seem to be working this time around...
So what else do I try?
I revisit really sappy/emotional books. Something to make me laugh hysterically or cry hysterically. Just something that will get a visceral, emotional response. So, basically I read any of my favorites by Colleen Hoover. Now, I haven't gotten to this point yet. I am currently rereading something else, but I have Hopeless waiting for me right now on my shelf.
Honestly, I just try to keep reading even though I don't want to.. And by picking up books that I know I love, I'm guaranteeing that I will have something to focus on.
Is there anything you recommend?
If you have a tried and true way that you get out of a reading funk, share it!
Happy Reading!
