After reading (and very much enjoying) book one and also watching the show (which I loved and may also do a post on at some point), I figured I should finally get on to talking about book 2 in the series.
Siege and Storm was actually my favorite book in the series and I can probably attribute that to the fact that Nicholai is my favorite character and there is a lot of him in this book (yes, I know he has his own books, but I'm trying to read things in order and will get to them eventually).
The very beginning of book two, we see Alina and Mal on the run from the Darkling (who I will now always and forever see as Ben Barnes). They travel and find odd jobs to keep themselves fed, but obviously he eventually catches up to them and they go on the next mission (I won't tell you because I don't want to spoil it if you haven't read the books yet).
I think Nicholai becomes my favorite because she is very self serving and he is not one to beat around the bush. He is very up front about his behavior and if he lies about something, he is usually pretty upfront about it when he comes clean and always explains (sometimes his explanations are maddening late). He also flirts with Alina a lot and she doesn't always know how to react to that (which for some reason I find hilarious). His attitude toward Mal is also very teasing, but he gives Mal a chance to prove himself and improve himself. I do feel as if Nicholai's character helped in the development of both Alina's and Mal's characters as well as breaking down the romance that book one begins. I'm honestly not sure how they would have developed and grown if it hadn't been for him.
For all of you who continue to read my posts, I apologize for last week. I was celebrating birthday week and didn't pay attention to any electronics and therefore didn't post. But it's back to our regularly scheduled program!
Happy Reading!
